Plans Scrapped

Written by California Mist at 00:34 17/3-2015

After two thirds of season 31 planning for this season, our plans have already gone up in smoke, and through no fault of our own. We announced a couple weeks ago that we were targeting tours this season, and to start with Giro Montelbano and Volta.

These tours take place at the same time so we were planning to send a climbing based team to Portugal and a hill / timetrial team to Italy. In order to do this we had deals in place on riders with some coming and some going. The last of these left today when climber/hiller Simeon Kermarec left to join Comfius.

His replacement was set to be Peter-Jan Van De Wal from Luistano. The experienced Belgian was to be the final piece of a jigsaw which would enable us to challenge on both fronts - his added downhill ability over the departing Kermarec was main reason for this.

Now with Kermarec sold, Luistano has been shut down by OCM (presumably for drug use of riders although this detail is likely to never be known) and we are left without a twelfth rider for the 2 squads.

With just 2/3 days to race signup it is now near impossible to sign a rider in time as a replacement. If we had of known this Kermarec would certainly not of been allowed to leave.

I got Wilbur and his hill squad in the Giro as well. Should be a good race.

V02maXXers at 14:21 19/3-2015
Thanks! Yeah, didn't expect that. Despite an injury of one of my main riders. I expect to struggle a few weeks in division 3 though. No big goals further this season anyway (unlike you).

California Mist at 14:11 19/3-2015
Thanks Lamme, yeah dropped enough points today to enable signup. Volta signup tomorrow, then just need to try and get the results... Your rise back up the divisions is impressive

V02maXXers at 14:07 19/3-2015
Happy to see you could at least use your bought wildcard. Good luck with your endeavours!

Super Velo at 14:43 17/3-2015
That should be pretty good. I kind of wish that these trainers and sports directors could be like doctors and mechanics or even like bus drivers or the PR guy. You pay a one time fee and then they stay on your team until you fire them. That would be better I think. lol

California Mist at 14:37 17/3-2015
Released him around Sept/Oct last year I think. The retire thing has been in effect for about a year, but only now can you actually do anything with the riders. Nick has also announced there will be sports director role upcoming where exp. is the important thing

Super Velo at 14:34 17/3-2015
I have "No riders have retired from your team." message. Although I have released plenty of riders in the past I haven't released any recently. Maybe when I released a rider the "retirement" thing wasn't in effect. When did you release Faulk? Maybe I'll try to find a 36 y/o guy and wait until retire shows then see what happens.

California Mist at 14:29 17/3-2015
If you released a rider previously who "ready to retire" he can be signed as a trainer. I've got Faulk on my list, but waiting to hire him until got a hill talent to train

Super Velo at 14:25 17/3-2015
Thanks, so it's just starting right now with the riders you have on your team and it doesn't apply to riders you had in the past. I have a couple of 34 y/o hillers that I can try that with. They aren't great but their hill is good. Thanks, got it now...

trackstah07 at 14:15 17/3-2015
I'll definitely be keeping Farley Vicker till retirement now. :)

trackstah07 at 14:15 17/3-2015
*one-dimensional 40yo with 99SP? Pick him up and hold onto him till he's retirement-ready, then release him and hire him as a trainer!

trackstah07 at 14:14 17/3-2015
I should clarify for you: Retirement now comes when you release a rider who is "ready to retire" and will not become a free agent who seeks other employment. I don't know when it triggers, but you'll definitely want to keep your best riders who have an elite skill past age 35 now. You still get their release value when they retire, as it's triggered by releasing them. See a one-dimensional 40yo wi

trackstah07 at 14:11 17/3-2015
Yeah, I wish I could have Pettis, Iacob, Amor, and Gustavsen as permanent trainers. I'd be all set lol. Those guys are legends. Gilroy Willson is ready to retire though. He can become a 75HL trainer for me whenever I decide to shut him down. I'm going to try him on some lower-division breakaways first though, and see if he has anything left in the tank!

Super Velo at 14:02 17/3-2015
In my 3 and a half RL years / 14 seasons in OCM apparently I have never had a rider retire from my team. Not one rider, not even one of the originals (that I never trained) can be captain. So features" like the trainers seem to only be for certain players.

Super Velo at 13:53 17/3-2015
I like the trainer thing too. However all the riders that I would like to have as trainers are stuck on abandoned teams so they can never retire.. Guys like Elijah Barone, Aiden Rodgers and my first 50+ avg rider Bruce Thomason would make good trainers.

trackstah07 at 11:42 17/3-2015
Good point! Btw, I like the new retirement/trainer system. It really incentivizes signing some of the neglected old guys now.

Cremtec at 06:54 17/3-2015
Not setting them free but go into an automatic auction. Teams picking them up for rv would otherwise have an unfair advantage...

trackstah07 at 04:05 17/3-2015
+1, let the riders ride. Replace them with guys who are 25 at everything lol.

Super Velo at 03:02 17/3-2015
I think in addition to shutting these cheating teams down they should set all of the riders free so that others can grab them. In addition if any deals were pending then you should be able to complete the deal and the money would go in the the big abyss that is the world of OCM and some of their completely insane decisions. Maybe we should stage some kind of a protest? Sign me up...

trackstah07 at 01:07 17/3-2015
Dang! Do you think he was shut down for coding nameless riders onto his team? IIRC, his team redop was originally shut down for coding race entry... I was surprised to discover in that thread that Team Revolutie had been shut down while I was away. You take a metaphorical nap and wake up to find things very different from how they once were!
